Providing Federated Access for the Southern California Clinical and Translational Science Institute
Time 10/03/11 03:00PM-04:00PM
Starting in Spring 2011 the University of Southern California began hosting the Southern California Clinical and Translational Science institute (SC CTSI). Created by the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) the SC CTSI is one of 60 research institutes nationwide that aim to speed research from laboratories to sustainable public health solutions. With SC CTSI participants including researchers, scientists, and doctors from a number of regional institutions, there was a need for federated single sign-on to the suite of collaborative services hosted at USC. The solution developed to meet this need combines a simple self-registration process with local and remote Shibboleth Identity Providers, allowing the authentication of registered InCommon members to be accomplished via federated login using home institution credentials and the home institution Identity Provider, while the USC Global Directory Service through the USC Shibboleth Identity Provider provides authorization, attribute release, and group membership services. This presentation will demonstrate this integrated solution and explain its implementation.
