Unravelling the Pain of Collaboration: a look at common challenges and new solutions to the issue of trust, service, and support of collaborative organizations
Time 10/05/11 04:30PM-05:30PM
As more and more collaborative and virtual organizations are created, many of the traditional issues of identity and access management morph in to new issues specific to the new organizations. Challenges around trust and assurance, software flexibility and licensing, and lack of budget for an IdM infrastructure are quite familiar, but how they present themselves in the world of VO require new ways of thinking about these challenges.
In this session, SURFnet will identify the challenges that are encountered when attempting to set up virtual collaborations (mostly for scientific research) in a federated setting. They will explain the core problems - and demonstrate the solutions - when combining the static trust model of a federation with the flexibility needed for proper VO support. LIGO, a large research VO, will review the challenges they have faced in setting up a common collaboration space and discuss what has - and has not - worked for them. The COmanage project will describe their approach to the challenges of creating a flexible collaboration management platform and the issues common across a wide variety of virtual organizations.
