Session Abstract

Our campus and regional optical network is faced with issues that many other organizations have to deal with, lack of support for IPv6 options or partial implementations on widely deployed and currently available network hardware.

As most do, we deployed IPv6 on our backbone first, since plumbing in the routing was necessary prior to rolling out native IPv6 and routing IPv6 is generally fairly easy if your environment is relatively vanilla. We found this piece to be straight forward for the most part, however, more complicated core configurations (VRFs, Internal Firewalling) and edge switch pieces were very much less so. There is a great deal of supported feature disparity between vendors and even between platforms and software releases.
