Making Federations Work: Stories from the CIC
Time 04/27/10 03:00PM-04:00PM
This session will look at how campuses and institutional groupings manage the policy and process issues that arise in implementing federations.
Michael Grady will discuss lessons learned as the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Library (University Library) coordinated with thirteen CIC institutions to launch a federated text and literature analysis service known as MONK (Metadata Offer New Knowledge). He will describe the challenges that were confronted and solved to get the MONK service "Shibbolized" and deployed, and to arrange for attributes to be released to it. A partnership of the researchers who developed MONK, the University Library, the CIC Library Directors, and the CIC Identity Management group worked collaboratively to achieve this goal.
