Libraries on the Front Lines of Federated Access
Time 04/27/10 01:15PM-02:30PM
Libraries and their vendors are at the forefront of access management when it comes to tackling challenging questions related to identity, roles, groups and collaboration for collections of users. These libraries belong to diverse communities with complex access needs and a web of supporting vendors. The presenters will discuss how the library community and OCLC have leveraged both Shibboleth and the InCommon Federation to address issues that otherwise would have required daunting technology approaches. This presentation will also elaborate on technical plans which leverage OCLC's new SAML 2.0 infrastructure to enable Role Based Access Control (RBAC) for a variety of products and services. The presenters will then explore the work being done by the InCommon Library Group to develop best practices, common use cases for accessing vendor services, and enhancing the relationships among universities and library service providers.
