Session Abstract

The Quilt and MIDnet have been collaborating on a project to promote further understanding of Regional Optical Networks (RONs) and the vital role they play within a region and/or state. While economic development is not a primary mission for all RONs, it is often a positive by-product of the presence of an advanced R&E network in a geographic area. In 2009, the NTIA & RUS announced $7.2 billion in federal stimulus funding for broadband infrastructure projects that stimulate broadband, economic growth and job creation.
