Network Implications of Cloud Computing

Time 11/04/10 10:30AM-11:45AM

Session Abstract

Cloud Computing has taken the world by storm, yet there are numerous misconceptions of the role networks will need to play. Key network impacts are associated with hybrid clouds which combine enterprise data centers with capabilities provided by external cloud service providers. Cloudbursting in hybrids, where servers are provisioned nearly instantaneously, is challenged by the requirement to move potentially large amounts of data equally quickly. This in turn has implications on network investment, network architecture, network flexibility, and distributed storage architectures required to ensure that current data is available when and where needed. The trade-offs between various options are reviewed, together with implications for network evolution.
