Cloud Computing for Science
Time 02/01/10 09:25AM-09:45AM
In this talk I will discuss the ongoing research at LBL to investigate the utility of Cloud computing for science. I will discuss our early experiments with various commercial Cloud platforms. This will include performance numbers for various benchmarks and applications on the Amazon EC2 platform. I will also discuss early results from running parts of the IMG metagenomics pipeline using the Hadoop map/reduce framework. I will conclude by giving an overview of the LBNL/NERSC component of the DOE Magellan project. Magellan is a joint project between ANL and LBNL to build a prototype Cloud infrastructure for DOE science.
