US-LHC Revised Distributed Computing Environment

Time 04/29/09 03:00PM-04:00PM

Session Abstract

There is growing concern in the US-LHC community that the compute resources at the Tier1 & Tier2 sites are not sufficient to meet the projects needs. It now appears that compute resources at the Tier3 sites will need to be use to fully analyze the LHC data. This may place unforeseen demands on the Tier3 campus and connector networks as Terabytes of data move in/out of these Tier3 sites. This data must move on human time scales (e.g., terabyte/hour) with days to weeks between transfers.

This session provides a 2nd opportunity for campus and connector management to hear directly from the US-LHC and OSG science communities. They will discuss the revised computing models, explain why data must move at peak rates, and how the data management system will control this data movement and job scheduling. The HENP-SIG session (Monday 2:30-3:30) is the other opprotunity.
