The Obama Effect: Impact of the First Digital Inauguration on Research and Education Networks

Time 04/28/09 04:30PM-05:30PM

Session Abstract

January 20, 2009 saw one of the single largest one day spikes in Internet2 traffic ever recorded as millions of individuals chose to view the First Digital Presidential Inauguration on their computers. Recognizing the growing shift in the way individuals access information about a global event, this inauguration may prove to be a large factor in increased bandwidth demand for all segments of the internet in the future. The Quilt plans to discuss the impact of this historic event on the research and education networks and will explore the implications it may have on future directions of high performance networking.
