Session Abstract
The Quilt and MIDnet have been collaborating on a project to promote further understanding of Regional Optical Networks (RONs) and the vital role they play in economic development in a region and/or state. For many RONs, economic development is not a primary mission, but often it is a positive by-product of the presence of an advanced R&E network in a geographic area. In March 2009, we began to collect economic development success stories of RONs and their participants. The goal of the project is to capture and publish these stories in a format that educates and promotes further investment, collaboration and cooperation in the networks. This session will give an overview of the project and will include examples from specific case studies
