Industry Update on 100 Gbps Optical Networking

Time 10/08/09 08:45AM-10:00AM

Session Abstract

With the ever increasing demand for bandwidth, even through difficult economic times, there is a need for higher capacity and more economical networks. In order to meet this emerging market requirement, the industry is developing next-generation optical networking standards and technology based on 100 Gbps technology capable of providing several Tbps of overall capacity per fiber at a reduced cost per bit. In this presentation we will provide an overview of the development of 100 Gbps standards, an update on the development of this technology, outline its application to R&E networks, and the discuss the new applications it will enable.
