Future of Social Networking

Time 10/15/08 03:00PM-04:00PM

This livestream has concluded. The archive video will be posted here. Archives can take up to two weeks to be posted.

Session Abstract

Current discussions of social networking technologies have focused almost exclusively on popular uses of these technologies to support
informal relationships and interactions, especially among young people. However, these technologies also have powerful applications in
professional communities. The purpose of this panel is to discuss the use of social networking to support communities of experts as they
deal with some of the most significant challenges we face: combating terrorism, preparation for large-scale emergencies, and dissemination
of medical and information and best practices. We will also discuss some specialized tools that can be used to coordinate and amplify
expertise.
