REDDnet Tools and Applications Meeting

Time 04/24/07 06:30PM-09:30PM

Session Abstract

The Research and Education Data Depot Network (REDDnet, ?ready net?) is a wide area storage network that is being created to support data intensive collaboration among researchers, teachers, and students on Internet 2 and other research networks. Launched in the fall of 2006 with funding from the NSF, it will become operational for participating application communities in 2007. It will provide its users with at least 500 TB of ?work space? in disk storage and 200 TB of tape storage for more long term and archival purposes. It uses Logistical Networking (LN) middleware, based on the Internet Backplane Protocol (IBP), in order to maximize easy and scalable deployment, freedom and flexibility for application developers, and sustainable interoperability. Bringing together leaders from REDDnet?s different application communities (e.g. Particle Physics, Environmental Science, Digital Multimedia, etc.) with software developers and LN researchers, this meeting will showcase REDDnet's capabilities, allow users to share experiences, and provide a forum to discuss future directions for software development, infrastructure deployment and community growth.

Space is limited, so if you are interested in participating, contact Paul Sheldon or Micah Beck .
