Dynamic Ethernet Lightpaths: Delivering On-demand 10GbE and GbE Connections for Research Networks

Time 12/06/06 10:30AM-11:45AM

This livestream has concluded. The archive video will be posted here. Archives can take up to two weeks to be posted.

Session Abstract

The proliferation of intelligent optical networking throughout the
global research networking community has set the stage for Dynamic
Ethernet Lightpath provisioning between regional and global research
Ciena will provide an overview of dynamic provisioning of Ethernet
lightpaths (GbE, 10GbE), fueled by advanced optical swithing and
transport technologies. With the automated service provisioning offered
by intelligent optical networks and automated control plane
technologies, GbE or 10GbE connectivity can be established within
seconds and can be utilized for days, weeks or months in support of
research connectivity.
The value of the new Internet2 intelligent optical switching platform
(aka the intelligent grooming platforms) will be highlighted in this
discussion. Key capabilities such as OTU/OTN, multi-protocol support,
10GbE optical switching, GFP/LCAS/VCAT, and automated control plane
technologies will be explained in context of providing automated
provisioning of Ethernet Lightpaths for regional and global research
networking requirements.
