Ethernet Evolution: The Path to 100 Gigabit Ethernet

Time 12/06/06 01:15PM-02:30PM

This livestream has concluded. The archive video will be posted here. Archives can take up to two weeks to be posted.

Session Abstract

IP network bandwidth continues to experience significant growth, driving the need for increased router-to-router connectivity and total IP trunk capacity. Current IP/Ethernet interface rates of 1GbE, OC-192/10GbE and even 40G will not allow efficient network scaling. Where are we on the path to 100 Gigabit Ethernet? Presenter will review the drivers for higher speed Ethernet interface and network bandwidth requirements and an overview of current industry activity in developing 100GbE technologies. Implementation options for implementing 100Gb/s transceivers and Ethernet Multilink will be reviewed, along with standardization activities underway with the IEEE, OIF and other standards bodies.
