Network Wizard Office Hours

Time 02/07/06 12:30PM-01:50PM

Session Abstract

Last fall's Bridging the Gap Workshop generated a number of methods by which the networking community could better communicate with users and other network engineers; one of the methods that was highly recommended was the holding of network engineer office hours on a regular basis. A refinement of that suggestion was that Internet2 sponsor BoFs at their meetings whereby network 'Wizards' could provide suggestions to their colleagues in a collaborative way -- individuals who had network glitches that had existed for more than 3 months, despite repeated attempts to resolve the problems, could submit a description of the problem to the group at least 2 weeks before the meeting. The problem would be posted in an anonymous way so that anyone who was interested could read the details. In return for the assistance, the submitter would commit to having someone present at the BoF, either in person or on the phone, who could implement changes suggested by the group. If a great number of problems were submitted in advance, not all would be addressed during the meeting, but the interested engineers would continue to formulate suggestions. (In the event that no problems are submitted, an open discussion of problems encountered and how they were or were not resolved will ensue.)
