Integration of Free/Open-Source Communication and Collaboration Tools for the Internet2 Community

Time 09/19/05 08:00AM-10:00AM

Session Abstract

We will share our experiences and get feedback about our efforts to build an integrated communication and collaboration suite of tools and practices that help the Internet2 community and other communities. This meeting will focus on relevant freely-available and open-source tools and methods we have used to knit them together to build a "Collaboration Suite". This two part format will be a combination of presentation, BoF-style information sharing, and group discussion. Part 1 will include demos of favorite tools and current efforts to integrate various freely available / open-source collaboration tools. Part 2 will be a discussion of issues around communication and collaboration: What should be provided centrally? What should be left up to individual teams and groups? How do we "discover" the resources that are available either centrally or distributed through the teams and groups? How do we build a community while allowing for local growth and innovation?
