Redundancy for High-Performance Connectivity

Time 09/21/05 01:15PM-02:30PM

Session Abstract

For many Regional Optical Networks, a single high-performance connection (such as an Abilene connection) is now viewed as a single point of failure. In most cases heretofore redundancy has not been viable for financial reasons. Now, however, new options are becoming available which make redundant high-peformance connections a realistic possibility for many RONs. In this session we will discuss some of these options, including direct redundancy via Abilene and peerings between RONs for mutual backup. Special focus will be afforded to connectivity via National Lambda Rail.
