Digital Video Transport System (DVTS) for High Quality Video Telemicroscopy Using the Internet2
Time 09/21/05 01:15PM-02:30PM
Pathologists at the University of Pennsylvania Health System have been experimenting with Digital Video Transport System (DVTS) for high quality video telemicroscopy using the Internet 2. DVTS based telemicroscopy is intended to be used for real time clinical case consultation between pathologists at the three Philadelphia hospitals that make up the University of Pennsylvania Health System. In addition, the DVTS streaming microscopy will be used in multicast mode to allow all three sites to participate in clinical and educational conferencing. This session will describe the need for telemicroscopy, the previous methods that attempted to accomplish the goals and the methods currently being implemented. Using DVTS, video quality is superb, the cost savings is significant and the diagnostic consultation is more efficient. A discussion of older technology will be contrasted with the current DVTS implementation. In addition, a demonstration of DVTS telemicroscopy (30 Mbps) as well as MPEG2 encoded (5 Mbps) telemicroscopy will be included as a part of this presentation.
