Development and Implementation of an Inter-Institutional Multi-purpose Grid
Time 09/22/05 08:45AM-10:00AM
SURAGrid is a cooperative, resource-sharing initiative to develop secure, transparent and scalable grid infrastructure. Twenty SURA members and collaborators are currently participating. With both experimental and operational objectives, SURAgrid will support use by multiple research domains while simultaneously developing an associated grid development community. Focus areas include:
1) Voluntary contribution of grid-based resources for shared use.
2) A Bridge Certificate Authority to facilitate inter-institutional sharing, leveraging enterprise identity management and in alignment with the national middleware infrastructure.
3) The SURAgrid portal, being developed to provide secure and user-friendly access to SURAgrid resources.
4) Development of a diverse set of applications to make immediate use of SURAgrid while helping to drive development.
SURAGrid is evolving based on open standards and protocols to enable sharing across institutional boundaries while retaining local autonomy. It is intended to enable participants to expand their experience with grid technology while serving as a working model for a dynamic multi-purpose grid - to promote the use of grids for the broad R&E community, creating a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts. This session will detail progress in each focus area, including several application demonstrations and vetting key development concepts with the audience.
