Implementing a Role Management System
Time 09/20/05 08:45AM-10:00AM
Your institution wants to provide some, but not all, services to its affiliates, alumni, parents, applicants, guests, etc. Your enterprise portal is fast becoming a one-stop shop for services and applications. How do you efficiently and securely manage these increasingly complex access scenarios?
Role based access control is an effective and scalable means of handling provisioning and authorization in identity management. What does it take to implement a role management system? The University of Wisconsin-Madison is currently in the second phase of the Populations, Affiliations and Service Entitlements (PASE) project, an enterprise-wide role and privilege and management system. This presentation describes the challenges faced ranging from design, integrating with existing infrastructure and applications, and security, to engaging institutional stakeholders, governance and policy-making.
