Industry Perspectives on Optical Networking BoF

Time 09/28/04 11:45AM-01:15PM

Session Abstract

In moving from leased circuits to facilities-based networking, the
Internet2 community is developing a new level of engagement with
fiber and optical networking companies. This BoF is designed as a
shortcut to the type of information that would normally be obtained
piecemeal or in formal (and sometimes more restrictive) interactions
with purchasing departments. Senior technical representatives will
present their company's current products, technology directions, and
value proposition in three related areas:

1. Interoperability and Standards Development/Compliance;

2. Value Proposition of Technologies for Different Deployments
(e.g., OEO vs. all-optical; metro vs. regional vs. national);

3. Manageability and Sustainability (e.g., dynamic wavelength
provisioning; one-time deployment vs. ongoing costs, expansion
capability; upgrade paths)

Lunch will be served.
