IEEAF and the Global Internet2 Community

Time 09/28/04 03:00PM-04:00PM

Session Abstract

The IEEAF is making significant telecommunications assets and
capabilities available to the Internet2 community and similar communities around the world -- referred to as the "Global Quilt". IEEAF and Internet2 are working together to leverage both organizations' resources and capabilities to expand advanced network infrastructure
globally. This session will provide details about IEEAF assets already in place and available to the Internet2 community as well as engage attendees in a discussion about future possible IEEAF-provided assets. Specifically,
individuals from the Pacific Northwest Gigapop, Japan's WIDE project, the
Dutch SURFNET, and Internet2 will present information on the
trans-Atlantic and trans-Pacific IEEAF wavelengths in place already and
the way these are being utilized, plus plans and status for lighting 7,000km of dark fiber in Europe. Finally, there will be a presentation from
the IEEAF outlining current and future assets it is working to make available.
