Time 09/28/04 04:30PM-05:30PM
A Penn State/Internet2/Simon Fraser University software initiative, known as LionShare, is generating excitement worldwide due to its innovative approach to secure electronic file sharing and academic collaboration. Lionshare, which is currently ending the first year of a two-year development project, is an academic-oriented, powerhouse application that merges file management capabilities and access-controlled P2P electronic file exchange with information gathering tools capable of searching a wide variety of repositories supporting varying metadata schema. The LionShare team will provide a report on the current status of the project, demonstrate the first public release of the software (0.4) and provide a roadmap of the second year development releases for the project including testing and Open Source development opportunities. Penn State, Internet2 and Simon Fraser University collaborator will discuss experiences in developing an application in a virtual environment. The LionShare team has been working closely with the Internet2 MACE and P2P Working Groups.
