Shibboleth for Non-Web-Based Applications

Time 09/29/04 03:00PM-04:00PM

Session Abstract

The newest version of Shibboleth, the open, standards-based solution for controlling access to resources in a secure and privacy-preserving manner, has evolved to address applications in the non-web environments and three-tier-related world, such as those experienced with grids, P2P applications and portals. Developers that are enhancing their applications with Shib will discuss their approaches and the benefits of these new capabilities.

Tom Barton will describe the NSF-funded effort to implement an integration of the Grid Security protocols and the Shibboleth protocols and functionality. Derek Morr will describe how the LionShare P2P application is 1) using Shibboleth to add access control to P2P file sharing technology, and 2) adding Shibboleth support to ECL, an implementation of the IMS DRI protocol. Mikael Linden will describe Helsinki University's use of Shibboleth to authenticate users of their wireless network.
