Network Engineering: Towards a Hybrid Packet Infrastructure

Time 10/15/03 10:30AM-11:45AM

Session Abstract

This session will be a discussion of recent developments in optical networking technology from U.S. and international perspectives. A particular focus will be the intersection of optical circuits and packet technologies. Internet2's plans for use of its 10Gbps wavelength available through National Lambda Rail will be discussed, including the formation of a design team charged with developing a plan for how new optical circuit technologies and existing high-performance Internet services can be combined to develop a next generation of advanced networking capabilities. The importance of regional efforts will be highlighted as well.
