Relationships and Partnerships: Lewis and Clark Meet Internet2

Time 10/14/03 03:00PM-04:00PM

Session Abstract

The famous Lewis and Clark expedition is being re-enacted in every detail exactly 200 years later. Boats, actors, costumes, flags, songs--everything as it was then, and it goes on for 3 years. Live H.323 video conferencing and MPEG4 broadcasting is being sent from the expedition to classrooms everywhere, via an Ohio State Internet-To-Go small satellite trailer. The trailer follows the shore and relays video from wireless units on the boat and in a buffalo scout's backpack. Telephony is provided by VoIP SIP technology. Many aspects of Internet2 are involved: The Internet2 Commons, K-20 Initiative, Research Channel, VoIP, wireless. Each group will explain its role in this huge event. Live video via Internet2 will be shown from the boat and one trailer at the Great Falls of the Ohio River, with a remote presentation by Meriwether Lewis himself. Another trailer will be at the conference for people to see up close.
