Network Planning & Engineering: International High Performance Connectivity

Time 03/09/01 10:30AM-11:30AM

Session Abstract

For several years, Internet2 users have enjoyed high-performance connectivity to international sites. The Abilene and vBNS backbones and the StarTap project have all contributed to this. Due to the high costs and resulting congestion of trans-oceanic circuits, these connections often failed to deliver high end-to-end performance of the kind expected within the Internet2 infrastructure. Recently, there have been dramatic improvements in this situation. The session will cover these improvements, including attention to increased capacity, flexible routing, and multicast support.
