Network Engineering: Wireless Everywhere on Campus
Time 10/03/01 01:15PM-02:30PM
During Spring and Summer 2001, The University of Tennessee deployed 1,000+ wireless access points , covering all major academic and administrative buildings on campus. The infrastructure was designed for IEEE 802.11b, with IEEE 802.11a in mind, providing 25 db (SNR) to most places. The University opted for a "per user per session authentication and encryption" solution. This presentation will assess the current state of UT's wireless LAN, through the analysis of key components like: Wireless LAN usage, survey and deployment methodology, cost model, security (Authentication/Encryption), network design, IP contention, Multicast and QoS.
