ORG University of Maryland Baltimore Title Vice President and CIO BIO Dr. Peter J. Murray is the Chief Information Officer and Vice President for Information Technology for the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB). Dr. Murray has been in this position for twelve years. He oversees the operations of the Center for Information Technology Services, which implements and supports academic and administrative technologies, including human resources, payroll, finance, student, e-mail, research, and teaching and learning systems, as well as telecommunications, web application development and the campus network infrastructure. Dr. Murray is also responsible for overseeing and coordinating campus-wide information technology planning, including policies, committees, and the overall strategy for the University. Prior to joining UMB, Dr. Murray was the Vice Provost for Information Technologies and Chief Information Officer for The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. Dr. Murray was the CIO at that University for nearly eight years. From 1985 to 1992, he worked for the State University of New York (SUNY) at the Central Administration headquarters. At SUNY Central Administration, he was responsible for managing information systems and research projects for the sixty-four colleges and universities in the State University of New York system. He holds a Ph.D. in Educational Administration and Policy Studies from the University at Albany, State University of New York, a Certificate of Advanced Standing from the University at Albany, and a Master's of Science from SUNY Plattsburgh. Dr. Murray received his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Middlebury College. He is currently the co-chair of the Higher Education Information Security Council (HEISC).
