Session Abstract

Security is an inherent, yet often overlooked, component of a robust campus, corporate or lab cyberinfrastructure. As a multidisciplinary practice, cybersecurity encompasses a wide range of concerns such as identity management, network security, social and behavioral aspects and privacy policy. The National Science Foundation (NSF) and the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) issued a plan for cybersecurity research and development in 2011. Since then, the NSF has funded numerous proposals under its flagship program, Secure and Trustworthy Cyberspace (SaTC). The NSF is dedicating more resources to cybersecurity programs as well as cybersecurity education for the next generation of experts. This presentation will review the strategic direction of NSF’s Cybersecurity Programs, discuss some interesting currently funded awards and present opportunities for future funding.
